columbus is cool :: Dinin’ Hall

Columbus has a lot going for it, lots of cool shops and things to do that are unique to the city. Each month I’m going to do/experience something new (to me) that is unique to Columbus and share it with the world here!

Food trucks are all the rage in Columbus nowadays. A couple weeks ago a new “food truck hub” opened up called Dinin’ Hall. My friend, T, from work and I headed over there on our lunch break last week to check it out.

The architects who created the space “love to eat as much as sit” so they came up with the idea of providing a casual dining experience while serving up a rotating menu of the best street food Columbus has to offer. The space is attached to an old urban warehouse-turned-artist lofts in Franklinton, which is just west of the river from downtown Columbus.

Since there’s a rotating schedule of trucks that park in the back, you could essentially come every day and get something completely different to eat each time! After ordering your food at the truck, you get a number and head inside to the dinin’ hall to pay and take a seat. When your food is ready a waitress brings it to your table.

I love the raw feeling of the interior–keeping the concrete floor exposed and just covering the ceiling structure with some spray paint–it definitely fits the atmosphere of the space and the neighborhood. All of the chairs look like they came from thrift stores and were simply given a coat of white or red paint to make them slightly more uniform; a cool idea for kitchen chairs, too!

Overall I thought it was very enjoyable and dined with a tasty blt pita from Pitabilities. T got a black bean burger from Spinelli’s Deli. (to which she gave high marks)

Check out the Dinin’ Hall’s website for the schedule of food trucks. This week is Community Celebration Week where they are giving part of their proceeds to non-profit organizations that have a strong presence in Franklinton which is an up-and-coming neighborhood just itching for some re invigoration. Dinin’ Hall is about Great Food, Great Space, and Great Community, and I couldn’t agree more. If you’re in Columbus, come check it out and see for yourself!
