lucy loves :: waterlogged

If Lucy had a say in this post, it wouldn’t be happening. She actually hates water. Being a terrier, she would rather dig in the dirt than dip one paw in the water. Regardless, here are three things that would be great for the water-loving dog.

1. Lifejacket. Lucy has a life jacket she wears when we take her on boat rides. She is less than thrilled with it. (see photo below)

2. Water Toys. West Paw Design’s Hurley toy is great for playing fetch in the water since it’s totally buoyant.

3. Cooling Bandanna. Dip this bandanna from My Outward Hound in water then tie it around your dog’s neck to keep them cool when it’s hot out (and they aren’t swimming). Lucy’s thinking this is a must have since she’s not a fan of those super hot summer days.

We’ll be dusting off her life jacket again this week at the cottage. I know she can’t wait!

Project Living Room :: the chair dilemma

living room update

Project Living Room seems to be stuck in “thinking about it” mode. I’m still totally planning on doing the refresh but I’m still just figuring out what to do.

One issue is the dilemma of the chairs. As you can see, the living room has 2 large cushy chairs and one couch. B and I only sit on the couch. We rarely use the chairs. Only when people come over and it would be awkward to all pile on the couch together does someone then sit on a chair. All other times, we don’t sit on them.

But Lucy does.

She sits on both of them. They are her chairs.

happy monday + being social media savvy

Happy monday everyone! I spent the weekend in Toledo to hand off Lucy to my parents for the next couple weeks since Brandon and I are headed to the beach soon with his family (yay!) and needed someone to look after the pup while we’re away. While I was there I took the opportunity to do some sewing with my mom and came back Sunday afternoon with some fun new duds that hopefully I’ll be showcasing on here soon.

Now onto some obligatory housekeeping:

Social Media Updates

Twitter: For those of you that follow me on twitter, you may have noticed that I changed my handle to @StuffStephDoes. Fitting, right? I figure I should try to embed my “brand” into your heads as much as possible by having it show up in as many social media outlets as I can possibly handle. If you already follow me nothing has changed, I’ll just show up as a different name. If you don’t follow me, well, what are you waiting for??

Facebook: I’m really trying to up the ante on my blog facebooking, but my efforts are not being reflected in my piddly stats. Turns out, it’s really facebook’s fault but we can fix it! So, if you follow me on facebook and aren’t seeing the goods I’ve been posting here’s what you need to do:

1. Go to my facebook page

2. Hover your mouse over the “liked” box until a little box pops up. (you might need to move the cursor over it a couple times until it finally shows up)

3.  Make sure “Show in News Feed” is checked.

facebook page updates

Hopefully then Facebook will decide to show you my posts in your news feed! If you don’t already like my page on facebook, well, what are you waiting for??

Thanks for your help and enjoy your week!

lucy loves :: dining in style

I’ve been noticing a lot of well designed fine dining options for the pup lately.  Actually, I’ve been noticing all sorts of all around cool stuff for dogs, but I needed some order to the post and images, so here’s a round up of lucy’s wishlist of serving ware:dog food dining round up

happy monday musings

happy last Monday in June! Can you believe that?! The first *official* day of summer was a mere 5 days ago and already it feels like the season is flying by.

Speaking of summer, Lucy is not a fan.  She does not like the heat and she has allergies that make her very itchy. We’re working on getting her back to feeling 100% with some allergy meds and fish oil in her food every day to help her skin. But that still doesn’t help a dark dog feel cool in the heat! The only cure for that is getting rid some of that extra fuzz. Behold, the new lucy:

Every time I pick her up from the groomer, I’m always surprised at how little she looks and how much color variation is in her coat. I think she’ll be much cooler on her walks now with her lighter apparel; now if we can just get the itching under control….

How was your weekend? Do anything fun?

happy monday

cairn terrior

Happy Monday! Another late Monday post due to a super busy weekend ending with B and me collapsing on the couch watching Lost for the rest of the night. We spent the weekend in Toledo for Father’s day and to fetch our pup who enjoyed a 3-week stint with my parents since we were out of town the weekend before.

monday musings

Happy Monday! I don’t have any related pictures for this post, so I’m defaulting to pictures of Lucy.

first, a bike fail:

The weather was so nice last week that I was able to ride my bike to work almost every day.  On my way home one day I was approaching a red traffic light where I need to turn right. Most times there aren’t any cars coming so I don’t have to completely get off my bike at that light.

But ugh, this time, there’s a car coming, I try to just go slow to time it right, but I got to the intersection and I had to get off the bike to stop.

Just as I get off the bike I realize the car was stopping. I look up and see I have a green light so I try to get back on the bike fast, but I didn’t really give myself a ‘push’ to get moving, and I can’t get my foot in the pedal! (The pedals that came on the bike are the kind that you put your foot into)

So I’m trying to get my foot in the pedal as the bike slowly stops moving and next thing I know, I just tip over. I’ve never been cow tipping, but I feel like it was sort of like that–how the standing cow just falls over, that was me on my bike.

I completely fall off the bike! And I wasn’t even moving! To make it better, there are a ton of cars just stopped at the stop light with nothing better to do but watch this silly girl attempt to ride a bike. One woman rolled down her window to make sure I was OK and assured me that she has had the same issue of not being able to get her foot in the pedal…

I awkwardly chuckled at her comment while proceeding to get back on the bike as fast as possible.

I was really OK, just ended up with a bruised knee and ego…

Lucy made this spot of dirt and an identical one on the other side of the tree in our backyard. Brandon and I had noticed she dug the one spot but we didn’t realize she did it for the purpose of laying in it. Maybe the dirt is cooler than the grass. Whatever the reason, that’s her spot she made in the yard.

In other news: I started a Stuff Steph Does facebook page. Exciting, right?! I have a link over in the side bar on my site or you can click here to go there and check it out. I need 25 likes to get the url I want for it.  So if you want to “like” it and keep up to date with all things stuff steph does via facebook, that would be awesome!

In the spirit of my bike riding abilities (or inabilities, rather) this week’s song is the theme song from Pee-Wee Herman’s Big Adventure. Remember that movie?? Maybe the song will jog your memory.
